Exhibition

Salon criticism was an important and influential aspect of the annual art exhibitions of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, known as "the Salons," during the late-eighteenth and late-nineteenth centuries. Criticism became inextricably interposed bewteen official claims of the exhibitions and audience perception. This online exhibition focuses on the development of Salon criticism in France by showcasing its form, style, and the different ways that it was published in the 1770s and 1880s.
